St. Croix Valley Opera: Figaro for Kids

Shows at 1pm and 3pm

Sunday, October 02

St. Croix Valley Opera is pleased to present:
“Figaro for Kids”
(Il barbiere di Siviglia told to kids)
based on “The Barber of Seville”

Is there anyone who hasn’t heard of Figaro, the protagonist of opera stages for more than two hundred years, yet forever young? In this version, adapted for young spectators, everyone will be able to learn to love theater and Rossini by listening to some of the music from his most famous opera.

St. Croix Valley Opera hopes to bring a bit of opera (In English) to area children with this version of Barber. In collaboration with the University of Minnesota’s opera professor, David Walsh, SCVO will be engaging talented local singers through their Summer Vocal Institute in June. In the SVI, the singers will prepare a 20–25-minute excerpt planned for the school tours in the fall to introduce opera to kids and encourage them and their families to attend the full hour-long “Figaro for Kids” production at The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, WI.

Details:

Location of Performance(s):
St. Croix Valley Opera will be showcasing a 20–25-minute sampling of “Figaro for Kids” in the fall of 2022 for St. Croix Valley 3rd through 6th-grade students, followed by matinee performances at The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, WI the weekend of the in-school performances. Children will be introduced to opera, maybe for the first time.  Then, along with their parents, they would be encouraged to see the whole 60-minute production that weekend at The Phipps together.

Looking for Expressions of Interest:
SCVO is looking for St. Croix Valley area schools interested in introducing and inspiring their 3rd through 6th-grade students to the wonderful world of storytelling through song in the fall of 2022. St. Croix Valley Opera would come to your school, and in a single or multiple program(s), share a 20–25-minute sampling of “Figaro for Kids”, along with some interactive educational programming.

Our hope is to provide learning tools for teachers to prepare the children for this exciting presentation ahead of our arrival. We know kids and adults alike will enjoy the performance. We hope kids are inspired by this short introduction, and perhaps motivated to attend the full production with their parents at the Phipps in Hudson. We are anxious to secure dates and understand the logistical considerations of your school to make this happen.

Please Consider Making A Difference In These Kids’ Lives:

We are also planning to find community support to work alongside local organizations interested in helping fund this opportunity for the children throughout the valley, and have made it very simple to make a donation/sponsorship contribution designated specifically for these educational events.  Please consider making a contribution to help sponsor this program and others in our 2022 season by following the link below(or above) and you will find suggested items that need your support!  Thank you and we hope to see you there, and maybe even work with you to bring this great opportunity to the children!

We look forward to seeing you at Figaro for Kids!
