Last March, the Trump administration issued an executive order titled, “Restore Truth and Sanity to American History.” It aims to review and possibly remove history deemed “divisive” or “anti-American” from national parks, museums and landmarks.
Here in Minnesota, the ripple effects were immediate. Museums and historical sites lost grant money, and corporate donors grew skittish.
This April, North Star Journey Live will go to Mankato, where the Minnesota Alliance for Local History Museums is holding its annual conference, to talk with local historians and curators about what they’ve experienced the last 12 months. How is Minnesota’s history holding up? Are parts of our state history being erased from the public view?
